For centuries the city of Bitlis has had a significant historical, administrative, cultural, scientific, commercial, economic and social influence on the wider region and it is of great importance that this is academically understood and investigated. Despite this, existing research on Bitlis remains not only highly inadequate and far-removed from the realities of the city, but are often also not discussed and examined in joint academic and scholarly forums.
For this reason and on the initiative of the Bitlis Ideational and Academic Working Group and with the broad support of civil society organisations and prominent personalities the International Bitlis Symposium will be held in Bitlis between the 26 and 28 of June 2014. The International Bitlis Symposium will be a forum where contemporary scientific and scholarly research on Bitlis will be presented, discussed and exhibited.
Abstracts should be no more than 250 words and in MS Word page format A4 (29,7 x 21,0 cm). The text should be in Times New Roman and in Kurdish, Turkish or English. We invite everyone who has carried out scientific research on Bitlis to the International Bitlis Symposium.
